Why do most students spend too little time revising and waste the time they do spend on the wrong activities?

Home $ KB Article $ Why do most students spend too little time revising and waste the time they do spend on the wrong activities?

Most students suffer from two particularly unfortunate misperceptions:

  1. They view intelligence and talent as innate and hard to change – rather than believing that they can be improved through effort. In psychology, this is known as having a fixed mindset (as opposed to a growth mindset)
  2. They believe that activities that deliver fluency (e.g. rereading and highlighting) are more effective than activities that have been scientifically proven to deliver a more durable impact (e.g. receiving feedback when answering exam questions) – click here to view a summary of the key research into the most effective learning strategies

The natural consequence is that they don’t spend enough time preparing for exams, and the time they do spend is wasted on ineffective activities.

GCSE Prepper is dedicated to helping teachers resolve both issues:

  • The student experience is designed to maximise the impact of every second that students spend learning
  • We give teachers the tools to motivate students by showing them that there is a strong positive correlation between effort and outcome
